First of all thanks for the excellent program! This is exactly the kind of thing I have been hoping for since my kids were old enough to start asking about the net.
Four things would make this perfect for me.
1. Ability to launch local programs. My kids also have a few locally installed games that they like to play (Zoo Tycoon is HUGE at our house...) it would be nice to add shortcuts to local programs or games so that Kidrocket could basically replace the desktop.
2. Edit allowed weblist. Just adding my voice to the chorus. Personally, I'm not crazy about some of the stuff on cartoonnetwork.com and I would like to add my son's school to the allowed list.
3. The ability to start in locked mode would be nice.
4. This is probably the hardest to do. An expanded email program with the ability to send AND receive only from white-listed addresses would be GREAT. A classmate of my son's just moved to Jamaica and they want to email each other but I am having a tough time finding a kid-centered email program that's worth much. -

Hey OptimisTech, appreciate the comments :)
#1 I need to seriously look into it, been mentioned a few times before & sounds really useful.
#2 and #3 ASAP. :)
#4 I've approached this from about every way possible now and am thinking of expanding it with some optional features soon, have plenty of prototypes.
Its basically down to the long term costs and responsibility of running an email service for people, especially kids!
If I'm going to do it? Its a serious, long term commitment and I'm going to do it right.
Stay tuned :) -

These suggestions got me to thinking that maybe just an entire OS that you can either just boot straight to (for kids with their own computers), or that would run on top of the windows interface like it does now... something to think about? Complete with it's own "desktop" and stuff. Good ideas! -

Hi organizedmom, I was away for the weekend :)
A more "desktop" feel is basically where I'm heading.
Looking forward to getting back on this fulltime, car wreck kinda threw a monkey wrench in things over the last couple months.
All healthy now, new vehicle, spring cleaning/chores are all done & garden is in. lol
Be back on this real soon.
stay tuned... -

The trouble with the independent OS idea is that it eliminates the 3rd party games and edutainment (did I really just type that...) titles my kids really like to play.
I like the idea of the simplified desktop. All of the "kid-safe" software I have found focuses on locking out functions and content you don't want kids to see. IMHO it's far better, and in the end more effective, to simply reduce the interface to only those items you DO want them to see.
